Ariel sets out to film his mother, Doris. Through her account, Doris weaves the story of the Jewish side of her family, who fled Germany, and of the Nazis who remained. It’s the story of a loving Jewish father and a distant German mother, whose father designed Nazi bunkers. Ariel reflects on why something that happened 80 years ago still resonates in his life, and examines the relationships between parents and children, and the ways we try to come to terms with the past we’ve inherited.
